About Us

OUTREACH PROGRAMS

"Getting the word out" is part of the mandate (mission statement) of HPWPS.

Members of our staff give numerous presentations on community-based forestry topics and participate in conferences and workshops across Canada and internationally.

Most presentations consist of a slide show defining community forestry, ecosystem-based planning, and the economic strategy for the Community Cooperative.

Outreach Activities 2004

January: Hosted the Community Forest Audit Team from the Ministry of Forest and the Auditor General’s Office

Hosted BC Institute of Co-op Studies from the University Of Victoria conducting co-operative research

February: Hosted Selkirk College Environmental Planning Class.

Presentation to United Nations sponsored forum on agriculture hosted by the Mountain Forum. Held in Chambrey France Food and Agriculture Organization

March: Hosted Selkirk College Geography Class.

Participated in the B.C. Community Forest Association Forum Revelstoke, B.C

April: Hosted the Dennis Lakusta Concert as a fundraiser for the Harrop-Procter Watershed Protection Society

Hosted a Non-timber Forest Products Workshop focused on policy and decision making with regards to NTFP’s

May: Shared the Harrop-Procter Story at the Idea Oasis sponsored by the Nelson Office of Possibilities, Nelson. B.C.

Received the Royal Canadian Geographic Society’s 2004 Environment Gold Award in the Sustainable Living Category.
