About Harrop-Procter Forest Products

Community Forest advocate Jim Smith helps with initial proposal development.

In contrast to the growing controversy over forest products, companies such as Harrop-Procter Forest Products are generating excitement among both environmentalists and foresters alike.

Essentially, our 11,000 hectare forest license holds one of the most promising keys to developing an industry that is both environmentally sustainable and beneficial to the economic health of our communities.

While it was created to solve an immediate problem in the Harrop-Procter corridor, Harrop-Procter Forest Products has the potential to affect communities around the globe. Since the pilot project agreement was awarded, the interest in this project has been growing steadily.

Researchers, students, and community leaders from across Canada and many other countries are connecting with us so we that may learn from each other and help improve forestry practices.

Our community forest is developed according to the ecosystem-based planning principles designed by the Silva Forest Foundation.

The utmost importance is placed on leaving a fully functioning forest after logging occurs.

We have chosen the Forest Stewardship Council to certify our wood. See Eco Certification

We are collaborating with local sawmill owners and remanufacturing businesses to produce rough-cut lumber and home finishing materials to keep as much of the manufacturing revenue within the local area as possible.

You can reinforce good harvesting practices by purchasing directly from Harrop-Procter Forest Products and by asking for eco-certified products at your lumberyard or furniture store.
